Andrea Albertini Award
The Andrea Albertini Award is established in Bologna in memory of the founder of Damiani Books.
The Award pays tribute to the visionary founder of the publishing house, who brought to Italy, under the towers of Bologna, some of the most prestigious talents in international photography, both established and emerging. The Andrea Albertini Award was established to honor the legacy and vision of Andrea Albertini, founder of Damiani Books, whose commitment and passion helped bring some of the most significant voices in contemporary photography to an international audience.
On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of its first publications, Damiani Books establishes the Andrea Albertini Award, an international prize to be granted each year to the best book published by Damiani Books. The winning title will be selected based on sales performance and the judgment of the public to its audience.
The management of the Award is entrusted to an Award Committee appointed by the Publisher. In addition, Damiani Books will propose to the author limited editions of the winning book, complete with a slipcase and a signed print by the author.
The initiative will receive appropriate media coverage, coordinated by the Damiani press office.
REGULATIONS
The Award is granted annually and is intended to recognize the best book published by Damiani Books in the calendar year preceding the year of the Award.
The final decision, which shall be final and binding, will be made by the Award Committee appointed by the Publisher, based on the mechanism described in the following provisions.
All art books published by Damiani Books automatically qualify for the selection process in the year following their publication, without the need for formal submission. Magazines, calendars, and other publications that do not fall within the category of “books” are excluded.
The ranking shall be determined by two components: one based on sales (see section a) and one based on readers’ votes, which may be cast on the Damiani Books website (see section b).
For each book, international sales generated within the first 12 months from its release on the physical market will be taken into account (e.g., for a title published in bookstores in October, sales will be calculated through the end of September of the following year).
Sales performance will account for 50% of the final ranking, divided as follows:
25% based on total international sales in the first 12 months, and 25% based on sales expressed as a percentage of the initial print run.
A sales ranking will then be established, and each publication will be assigned a score according to the criteria defined by the Committee.
The sales ranking will assign points based on position, with 20 points awarded to the 1st position, 19 to the 2nd, 18 to the 3rd, and so on, decreasing by one point per position down to 2 points for the 19th position; all titles ranked 20th and below will receive 1 point.
Readers may vote for their three preferred books in a dedicated section of the Damiani Books website during the voting period. Each voter must select three titles; each vote corresponds to one point assigned to the cosen book. Based on the total number of votes received, a score will be assigned to each publication according to the criteria established by the Committee. Each voter may submit their preferences only once.
The sales ranking will assign points based on position, with 20 points awarded to the 1st position, 19 to the 2nd, 18 to the 3rd, and so on, decreasing by one point per position down to 2 points for the 19th position; all titles ranked 20th and below will receive 1 point.
The sum of the scores resulting from the rankings described above shall determine the winner. In the event of a tie, the Award shall be granted ex aequo. The name of the winner will be announced by Damiani Books no later than January of the following year. Each year, the Award Committee shall determine the procedures for the announcement and the presentation of the Award.
The author(s) of the winning book may communicate the Award designation using the official logo of the initiative.
In the event of any dispute, the decision of the Award Committee shall be final and not subject to appeal.
