Independent Vision & Editorial Excellence 📖

Founded in 2004 by Andrea Albertini and still family-run, Damiani Books is an independent Italian publishing house dedicated to producing significant books, with a primary focus on photography, design, and fashion. Its editorial practice combines solid technical expertise with a contemporary, curatorial vision. Damiani titles are distributed and promoted worldwide through distributors specializing in the illustrated book market.

Italian Craftsmanship & Quality 🇮🇹

Rooted in a typographic tradition that spans more than a century, all Damiani publications are produced and printed in Italy. The publisher brings together artisanal know-how and innovative production solutions to achieve the highest standards of quality in materials, printing, and design.

Although Damiani no longer owns its own printing facilities, it retains deep expertise in managing pre-press and printing processes—one of its core strengths and a distinctive value when choosing Damiani as an editorial partner.

Enduring Relationships & Shared Creation 🤝

Damiani cultivates close, long-term relationships with its authors, often developed across multiple editorial projects, supporting them from initial concept through publication and promotion.

The publishing house welcomes authors into every stage of the creative process—particularly during production in Italy—encouraging dialogue, participation, and direct involvement in pre-press and printing. This collaborative approach helps shape each book into both a visual testimony and a carefully crafted, distinctive publication.

Master Photographers and New Generations 📷

Alongside monographs dedicated to master photographers such as Joel Meyerowitz, Sandy Skoglund, Martin Parr, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Susan Meiselas, and Marina Abramović—to name just a few—and collaborations with prestigious cultural institutions including Villa Medici – the French Academy in Rome, the Alaïa Foundation in Paris, and the McNay Art Museum in San Antonio, Texas, Damiani also actively supports the editorial debuts of emerging artists.

Over the years, the publisher has released books by artists working across different fields, including musician Moby, with a monograph accompanied by the eponymous album; four photography volumes by Michael Stipe, frontman of R.E.M.; and the first monograph by Academy Award–winning cinematographer Roger Deakins.

Gender Equality & Freedom of Expression 🌈

For many years, Damiani Books has maintained a strong commitment to publishing works that address themes of gender identity, equality, and freedom of expression. The publishing house has given voice to artists and authors whose practices explore LGBTQ+ narratives, personal identity, and the right to self-representation.

Through carefully curated editorial projects, Damiani supports diverse perspectives and often underrepresented voices, affirming the book as a space for visibility, reflection, and cultural dialogue. This commitment is not a trend, but a long-standing editorial position.
