In 2008, Sasha Eisenman began a photographic investigation of the California Girl. Much of the photographs are nudes or semi-nudes. The images, while being sexy and provocative, also have an innocent, playful, and romantic nature. Eisenman searched out and photographed the unique style, personality, and beauty of a varied group of girls from California. Initially Eisenman cast from a small group of friends, who would meet at backyard parties, surf trips, or music shows. Sasha Eisenman is an American fashion photographer. Having grown up in Southern California, Eisenman was immersed in the culture of surfing, the beach life style, and the freedom that comes with it. Eisenman had a chance meeting with legendary photographer Bob Richardson, who was impressed by the young photographer’s work. Richardson suggested that Eisenman go to London. Heeding this advice, Eisenman temporarily relocated to London. Soon he began shooting for the highly influential, Dazed and Confused Magazine. As a result, he joined the then-top photography agency Katy Barker, and spent the next several years living and working between London, Paris, and New York. His work appeared in countless magazines, such as iD, Teen Vogue, the New York Times Style Magazine, GQ, and Glamour. He also worked with many advertising clients.

Sasha Eisenman is an American fashion photographer. He attended the University of California San Diego, where he studied Media Arts/Film, with an emphasis on 16mm film-making and photography. Having grown up in Southern California, Eisenman was immersed in the culture of surfing, the beach life style, and the freedom that comes with it. He began taking photographs at a young age with his mother’s old Nikon 35mm. He documented his friends and their adventures during frequent surf camping expeditions down the desert coastlines of the Baja Peninsula of Mexico, all the while building up both his understanding and love of photography. After graduating from University, Eisenman moved to Los Angeles where he was intending to pursue a career in film- making. The year was 1999 and the city had a small but thriving underground music scene of which Eisenman soon became a part. He began photographing the friends he made within this scene, their bands, their shows, their parties, etc. Also at this time Eisenman had a chance meeting with legendary photographer Bob Richardson, who was impressed by the young photographer’s work. Richardson suggested that Eisenman go to London and try to meet with some of his contacts within the fashion world. Eventually Eisenman returned to Los Angeles, while continuing to work in New York and Europe. He started splitting his time between his home in the city and a property in the high-desert town of Joshua Tree, California. In 2008 Eisenman began work on his California Girls project and over the next several years created the images that would become his first photography book. As a result of his work on California Girls, Eisenman has begun working for the newly-revitalized Playboy magazine, creating photography for the magazine that is reminiscent of its glory days during the 1960’s - a period that has inspired Sasha Eisenman’s work from the beginning. His photography is known for its loose, natural, and somewhat romantic style. Eisenman has now begun work on his next book project - this time focusing on men. He continues to work for many clients in print and advertising around the world.
